After playing 4E for about a year's worth of play since it came out my group is kicking it into touch for the forseeable future. It just got to feeling more like a tactical boardgame than a roleplaying game, encounters were always taking ages and it was getting samey. Something a bit better flowing with more role-playing and more flexibility is required.

After trying the fun introductory Pathfinder module "Crypt of the Everflame", it looks like we are switching from 4E to Pathfinder for a much longer trial period.

The downside to some is the complexity of 3.5/Pathfinder for character sheet creation/management (particularly spell casters) versus the ease of management of character sheets in 4E. I am hoping the availability of good character management software such as HeroLab will mitigate that side of things.

Any experiences out there with Pathfinder that might help the transition?

Sorry to hear 4E didn't work out for you guys.

I don't have any experience of Pathfinder, so can't help. Some of us have discussed giving it a go. I have the Core Rulebook and Bestiary, plus the same introductory adventure you played. It would be interesting to compare it.

We're playing some high level 3.5 (15th+) atm and we're finding it heavy going. From what I've seen, I'm not sure that Pathfinder fixes high level play or some of the other inherent problems with 3.5 - but I might be wrong.
